MEDAL - Pope Pius IX - Year XXIV - 1869 - Annual medal coined, issued on 06/29/1869, in memory of the construction of the war memorial in the Verano cemetery. Outline: frame - The Monumental Cemetery of Campo Verano is located in the Tiburtino district, not far from the Basilica of San Lorenzo outside the walls. The area was already used for burials in Roman times, but the construction of the cemetery was carried out between 1807 and 1812 on a project by Giuseppe Valadier in implementation of the edict of Saint Cloud of 1804.
