RARE VINTAGE 1980s CRUMP THICK VINYL SADDLE LEATHER DUFFLE GYM TRAVEL BAG $R798

My bags are the antidote for the poly-lined synthetic leather run-of-the-mill bags being produced in China. Most of my bags are full-grain leather; Artisan craft , with authentic distressed character, and many with modifications unique to our line. We only use high-grade men's belts for shoulder straps. This leather is reminiscent of equestrian leather halter straps.  I also use half centimeter thick moose skin. Nothing wimpy here; quality and character that stands out and stands the test of a truly rugged lifestyle.

Invest in a bag that you'll love more and more over time. Not all leather bags are created the same. A great quality leather bag is supposed to look better with time as the leather acquires marks and age-related wear.

Make sure to check out my whole store.  At the time of this listing, I have 180 items all unique and different. Many with added moose skin handles; my "trademark" unique idea. Once you have tried it you will wonder how you functioned before without an inside handle. Also on many of my briefcases, I add a moose skin handle wrap.  The handle is the point of contact that the owner has with their bag and moose skin leather is so pleasing to touch.

My philosophy in writing descriptions is: a picture speaks 1000 words. So please look at the pictures and email me with any questions. That said, here is my description:

---------------

This item is the top smaller of the two duffles.  It is 16 x 11 x 9.  If you buy them both, I will give you a $60 off.  I can do this after the sale as a refund so no need to wait.

What I love about this rugged duffel is that is was made by a company that design and construction are known world-wide in the Equestrian world.

Here are some note-worthy features:

Full Grain Leather Trim Handles, Logo, and inside Leather Bottom, Eight Brass Metal Feet, Heavy Duty Vinyl, Rugged Talon Brass Zippers with added deerskin inside zipper pull. Brass Hardware - D-rings, Inside shoe pockets to keep your shoes separate from the rest of your gear.

The stitching is impeccable.  The materials are rugged to the core.

If you buy both of them (if they are both still listed) I will refund the purchaser $60 as a discount.

The B.T Crump Company, founded in 1875, represents a longstanding commitment to quality and tradition. Upholding the traditional English style and feel, B.T Crump saddles incorporate modern technology and techniques to provide the best English saddle on the market today.

Here is a little bit about the one of the later owners of BT Crump: "It was almost midnight on July 25, 1956. Thomas Austin Matthews and his wife, en route to Europe, were among late diners and dancers aboard the Ile de France when the ship lurched, sending a piano sliding across the floor.

The music stopped. The lights went out, then on. When nothing else happened, the passengers retired to their cabins. When Mr. Matthews arose at 5 a.m., the liner had stopped. From his porthole, he saw a lifeboat floating past and planes overhead.

Going on deck, he discovered the previous night's events occurred as the Ile turned around at 11:54 to participate in the greatest peacetime sea rescue in history. The ship was taking on the lion's share of survivors after the Swedish liner Stockholm slammed broadside into the Italian luxury liner Andrea Doria in fog south of Nantucket Island, Mass. It was a shade of the Titanic disaster, only with more than 1,600 passengers and crew saved.

"The experts said it couldn't happen in the age of radar. My father saw the Andrea Doria go down," said his daughter, Betty Jean "B.J." Cyr of Springfield.

Mr. Matthews, who with his wife amassed three scrapbooks about the famous sinking, died Monday at his Hanover farm. The Richmond resident was 93.

A funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bliley Funeral Homes' Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

At the time, he was an executive for B.T. Crump Co., which had employed him as a shipping clerk in 1932 at 13 cents per hour. By 1966 he had risen to executive vice president.

In 1968, Mr. Matthews and a partner bought Crump, the nation's largest manufacturer, distributor and importer of saddlery, racing harnesses and other leather goods. In addition to 200-odd sizes of hand-made bits, handmade bridles and pacing hobbles, Crump also wholesaled nearly everything else connected with pleasure and racing horses, including liniments, remedies, vitamins and brushes.

The business, which also made leather goods for police and law enforcement agencies, supplied former President Ronald Reagan, his wife and their security details with saddles. "We made Reagan a red, white and blue saddle pad with the presidential seal on it," said his son, Thomas A. Matthews Jr. of Mechancsville.

Crump had dealers in every state and Canada, a plant in California and deals abroad. Mr. Matthews served as president and CEO. He became sole owner after his partner died.

A Lunenburg native and tobacco-farm boy who rode horses to school and spent hours plowing, he presided over Crump's production of its last collars that attached horses to plows.

He sold Crump and retired in 1986.

He was the widower of Edith Marie Kelly Matthews, who died in 1998.

Survivors besides his son and daughter include three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

I thought that was interesting!! :-)

Now back to the bag -

I really appreciate the nice size it is for the gym or as a carry on.  It is even big enough a 15" MacBook Pro.

I have this bag listed as a man's bag.  But to a woman who is looking for that vintage rugged look, this would be perfect.

This beautiful bag comes from a smoke-free home in Minnetonka Minnesota. If you live local please contact me if you're interested in local pick up and saving on shipping.
