The key turns this lock clockwise to unlock and counter-clockwise to lock. When unlocked, it can be pushed inward to open the drawer.

This lock set is compatible with some heavy duty MS and compatible NCR brand cash drawers and is typically located on side of the cash drawer frame.
If you've broken a key off in the lock there are a few possible ways to remove the damaged lock.
Once the drawer is open you can remove the screw on the backside of the lock and it should come out. Installation is the reverse.
