DESCRIPTION

In the original French.

A collection of articles, satirical tales, and news pieces that were originally published between 1840 and 1842. It was a very popular work, with contributions from noted authors such as Honore de Balzac, Charles Nodier, George Sand, and Paul de Musset.

Illustrated with a frontispiece and numerous in-text engravings throughout.

Edited by Pierre-Jules Hetzel, a French publisher, who is best known for his illustrated editions of Jules Verne's novels.

Illustrated throughout by Grandville, a French caricaturist and illustrator, who was well known for his political provocation through his work. His work had a big influence of various Punch cartoonists.

Blind stamp to the front endpaper, 'The Collection of John M Blundall'.


CONDITION

In a quarter morocco binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, smart. A little rubbing to the spine. A few light marks to the boards. Front hinge is starting but firm. Blind stamp to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the odd spot.
