DESCRIPTION
In a full calf binding. Rebacked, with the original boards preserved. The boards to this work have detailed tooling, with floral motifs.
From the library at Apley Park, Shropshire. With the bookplate to the front pastedown of William Orme Foster. Foster bought the manor in 1867 and remodelled it to Gothic Revival style from the Neo-Gothic it was. The estate remained in the family until 1960. Foster was an English ironmaster, and owner of the large industrial firm John Bradley and Co.
Melancthon is a pivotal figure in the sixteenth century Protestant Reformation and stands with Martin Luther and Jean Calvin as an architect of Protestantism. He was a collaborator with Martin Luther and therefore is, after Luther, the primary founder of Lutheranism.
With a portrait frontispiece and one facsimile plate of Melancthon's handwriting.
Written by Francis Augustus Cox, a prominent English Baptist minister. Cox wrote several works including a history of the Baptist Missionary Society and two volumes of Biographies of females in The Bible.
A comprehensive biography of this influential reformer, whose peaceful qualities led to his popularity by many.
