Antique Dutch/Flemish Oil Painting on Wood Board Old Couple Framed c.1800

Description: Presented is a beautiful oil painting created around 1800 in Holland in the tradition of Golden Age on the Dutch painting.

Painted by a talented artist in nice colors with fine strokes, it shows an old couple with a large serving stein and a tobacco pipe. This subject was very popular among Dutch genre painters like Adriaen van Ostade, David Teniers, and Adriaen Brouwler.

Please note - this painting is a part of the diptych in pair with another one of the same size and by the same artist showing a young couple cheerfully raising a glass of wine. The old couple is much less joyful and rather sad. I guess there was a point in the hanging both paintings together on a wall.

The painting is signed verso in German - apparently, both of them were a part of a German museum or private collection. They are dated 1800 but I think they could be older.

Painted on wooden board nicely preserved - this media was actually in use in Europe for several centuries - from the 1600s to the end of the 1800s.  The ideal flat surface of the wooden board allows for the finest strokes and smoothest painting.

The frame was most likely made in the early 1900s specifically for this painting. The size is 12"X10.5" framed, 7"X5" without the frame. Good condition with some very minor paint wear. There are some minor bubbles on the surface but I think they belong to the old coating, not actual paint. The frame is in great condition as well.

I am selling the paintings separately, but if you are interested in both of them, please let me know. We can manage a discount in this case.
