A gorgeous Italian Borchese gilt painted orange basket book end/door stop. There would have been a pair but only one left. Could be used as a bookend or a very smart doorstop. Moulded plaster in the form of a an elegant panelled fruit basket with foliage and fruit, the flat reverse painted with a green/blue paint. The front of the plaster form has been painted with a silver/gold paint with distressed look. Secured to the base is a green metal painted plate that sits under the books or can be wedged under a door. The metal plate and base of plaster are covered in black felt and there is the remnants of a label. Regency in style.
The doorstop/book end measures 17 cm in height and the plate measures 9.4 cm.
