The Set :

- A complete laboratory equipment for chlorate production, ready to use, based on a pair of two electrodes bolted in a PTFE lid with the electrical and chemicals necessary for starting.

Specification :

- Size of electrodes : 120x50x1.4mm (working area) + 30mm connector as pictures
- Anode : Ru-Ir coating on Titanium substrate provides excellent resistance to chemicals, and oxidation.
- The Ru-Ir coating is about 12g/m² enable a lifespan of about 1 years at 200mA/Cm².
- The lifetime is very high, but depends on the use conditions.
- Max current recommanded is 200mA/Cm2.
- The shape allow 1A/Cm immersed who give about 12A for this model (lower current = longer lifetime).
- Recommended working temperature : 60°C (can work until 100°C but lifespan is shorter).
- This anode allow to electrolyze from chloride to chlorate in one step.
- Durable and reliable laboratory equipment.
- PTFE is the only way to get a perfect anti-corrosion seal, thus, this lid is the best way for electrolysis cell.
- A 40mm fan has been added to reach 10A (up to 12A) at room temperature.
- All the electronic equipment has been tested and calibrated at 5V to protect the anode and 10 amperes, allow to produce (90 to 150g of KClO3 (potassium chlorate) by 24H (138g/day for 75 % of yield).

Package included:

- 1 paire of Ti cathode + Anode (Ru-Ir two side coating on Titanium substrate : the darkest one), bolted in a PTFE lid.
- Lid : 100mm x 100mm x 5mm square.
- 1 constant current regulator already calibrate (no need to modify the selection) for 10A total output current (can work until 12A) thanks to the active cooling airfan.(You are responsible of the heat of the module. Under 60/70°C at heatsink is OK for long fifetime).
- 1Pcs 230V to 24V 3A EU plug transformer (already tested).
- 100g of potassium persulfate to improve the brin’s PH stability, yield and anode lifetime.
- 15mL dropper of Methylene Blue in solution (1%)
- PH paper (80 strips)
- 80Cm of 1,5mm² double cable already bolted to the electrodes.
- Spacer (between electrodes)

→ The glass jar is not included. You need to found one, (easily), in glass or pyrex, with an opening between 58 to 98mm. The best volume for 10A is around 600/1000mL to keep the temperature at good level.

Use :

1 – Be careful of the place : hydrogen gas, chlorine and oxygen are release by the cell.
Never let the cell run in a house, but in appropriate laboratory with gas evacuation or outside, and never near flamme or heating source. Keep a fire extinguisher beside.
2 – Take a glass jar (0,6 to 1,5L) with
opening of 58mm min (98mm max).
3
Prepare the brine according to the manual below or video (with 2 to 4g/liter of persulfate).
4 – Put the electrodes-lid in the glass jar (you can seal it with PTFE or silicone rubber but it’s very hard)
5 – The set is « Ready to use » : connect the 5,5mm plug of the 24V 3A power supply to the current regulator.
6 – Switch on the card regulator and control the voltage + current. The output voltage must be less than 5V (less than 4,5V between electrodes) and stabilised near 10A for long module lifetime (with active cooling).
7 – From time to time control the PH (6,5 is perfect) even you can do without, and the PH will stabilize around 9 – 10 (lowest yield). Along the days, complete with water the evaporation.
8 – To improve the yield, you can wrap the jar with synthetic cloth to rise the temperature.9 – If you use KCl in solution, just collect the KClO3 crystals at the bottom.
9.5 – If you use NaCl : when the voltage rise after the estimated time (depend of yield) make a methylene blue test to show traces of ClO4 ions. If you got a purple color and flakes, the electrolysis can be stop, almost all the NaCl passed into NaClO3.

→ You can use this set for pool chlorination (NaClO below 40°C).
→ You can also use this for produce weed killer : the most ecological weed killer because NaClO3 is degrading in NaCl (table salt) and return to the ocean.

Warning:

- Ru-Ir coating is quite sensitive : never chock or strike them.
- Avoid fluorine and all fluorine salt (persulfate works very well).
- Respect the max current to avoid fast degradation.
- Don’t reverse polarity, it will rapidly destroyed the electrodes.
- Gas are dangerous and flammable, the running cell MUST work in appropriate place.
- Read the manual.
- In some countries, for non-laboratories, some chlorate and their concentrations are restricted.
