Antique German Art Nouveau Jugendstil Very Large Covered Bowl by J.P.Kayser & Son c.1900

Description:

This large beautiful covered dish/bowl is designed in very a stylish manner - the signature characteristic of Jugendstil or German interpretation of Art Nouveau. Made of patinated brass, it was crafted by J.P.Kayser and Son - the German metalware factory also known under the name of Kayserzinn - the most famous German Jugendstil metal objects manufacturer.

At the world exhibitions in Paris (1900), Turin (1902), Dusseldorf and St.Louis (1904), the company enjoyed great success with its "Kayserzinn" or "Kayser pewter", a special lead-free alloy of tin and silver distinguished by its lasting gleam - success which it owed to its outstanding designers: Karl Geyer (1858-1912), Hermann Fauser(1874-1947), Karl Berghof(1881-1967) and others, but their main designer and artistic director was Hugo LEVEN (1874-1956), a name to be compared with that of Liberty's main pewter designer, Archibald KNOX.

It was the Kayser company's aim, through its use of the methods of mass production, to make artistically designed, contemporary stylish objects of daily use (such as candlesticks, ashtrays, lamps, beakers, vases, tea and coffee sets) accessible to a broad selection of the public.

The mark at the bottom shows an eagle and the word "Kayser" - this mark was used on non-pewter objects from 1914 till 1925. The bowl is made of patinated brass, it is in excellent condition for the age. There are some minimal scratching unavoidable in metal items, but no dents, breaks or repairs

It is very large and impressive - measures long from handle to handle, and it stands 14" high to the top of the lid's finial.

Please note - this is the original object of art from early 1900. I guarantee my dating and description.
