DESCRIPTION

Rebound, in a later half crushed morocco binding with paper covered boards.

Inscription to the recto of front endpaper, dated 1963. Bibliographical notes in pencil to the front free endpaper. Prior owner's inscription to the title page 'R Morison'.

With errata to the rear.

Bound without folding leaf of rules scheme of laws for the management of a School of Arms and without folding plate.

A scarce work, written by an authority on fencing, Sir William Hope. Hope is notable for his criticism of the French Small-Sword system he personally trained in. He felt that the true Art of Defence lay in the English back-sword method. This work explains his theories, and is his most famous.

CONDITION

In a half morocco binding, with paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart, with rubbing to the joints and to the extremities. A few light marks to the boards. Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper. Further inscription to the recto of front free endpaper. Contemporary inscription to the title page, with a blind stamp to the bottom of the page. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with just the odd spots.

Overall Condition: Very Good Indeed
