Hello, we're selling a used, Franklin Mint History of the United States 1854 & 1855 solid bronze medals in their original packaging. They have been inspected.
The obverse of the 1854 medal says, "Perry Opens Trade with Japan" across the top. The middle has a portrait of Commodore Perry standing with some Japanese men. Below the portrait is the date "March 31, 1854". The reverse has 1854 on the top and says, "MAR. 31 - Treaty of friendship and trade signed by Commodore Perry with Japan; MAY 30 - Kansas-Nebraska Bill receives President Pierce's approval; JULY 6 - Formal organization of the Republican Party; NOV. - "Know-Nothing" Party becomes a national force in politics".
The obverse of the 1855 medal says, "Year of Engineering Feats" across the top. In the middle is a portrait of a bridge. Below the portrait is the date, "1855". The reverse has 1855 written on the top and says, "Bridge at Niagara Fall, "Soo" canal, and railroad across the Isthmus of Panama completed; JUNE - William Walker leads filibustering expedition in Nicaragua; AUG. - Castle Garden, New York theater, becomes a depot for immigrants".
The coins/medals appear to be in good condition. There may be some discoloration of the coin.
