The first edition of this beautifully illustrated edition. Issued the year after the true first edition and the same year as the first English edition.

Bound in a lovely half calf binding with the original paper wraps bound in.

From the library of Lady Maxwell Scott, with her book ticket to the recto of front endpaper.

Limited edition, numbered 111 of 500 copies.

Beautifully illustrated by Jean Oberle. Oberle was a French painter who became a member of the French Resistance. He illustrated a number of contemporary books, and won the Blumenthal Prize for his work in 1934.

'Lewis et Irene' follows the romance between a French financial speculator and a young Greek widow.


CONDITION

In a half calf binding with paper covered boards. Externally, very smart with shelfwear and light rubbing to the spine and joints. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm. Book ticket to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean.
