One packet of more than 50 seeds.

These small alpine Primulas bloom in early spring in shades of pink and purple, with a white or yellow eye, sometimes ringed or dusted with farina. A few plants may have white, yellow, or blue flowers. Very hardy perennials, they are easy to grow in light shade at the front of a border or in a rock garden. Display them in classic terracotta pots or plant them in an alpine trough or container garden.

Seeds are collected from the plants pictured, and many others, grown in Edmonton, Canada: hardiness zone 3 (to -35C).

Species involved in these hybrids may include Primula auricula, P. hirsuta, P. allionii, P. marginata, P. villosa, P. carniolica, and others.

Most seeds in the Mixed Colours packet are from flowers in shades of pink and blue/purple. A few seeds are from yellow, white, or red flowers. A few also are from flowers with striping, flowers with pointed petals (star-shaped), and other unusual or strange-looking flowers.  Plants from these seeds will typically be smaller than garden or border auriculas.

Most plants will begin blooming the second spring after sowing. Seeds may be started indoors at anytime (usually autumn or winter) or outdoors in late winter/very early spring. In any packet, there will be seeds that germinate quickly at room temperature and seeds that require a wet-cold period to break dormancy, so it is easiest to give all the seeds a wet-cold period, either outdoors in winter/early spring, or in the refrigerator. More detailed instructions will be included with the seeds.
