Jack Leon Ruby born Jacob Leon Rubenstein [1911 1967] was a Dallas nightclub owner who on November 24, 1963, shot and killed Lee Harvey Oswald who was in police custody after being charged with assassinating United States President John F. Kennedy. Ruby was convicted of the murder of Oswald and sentenced to death, but his conviction was later appealed and was granted a new trial. On January 3, 1967, as the date for a new trial was approaching, Ruby became ill in his prison cell and died of a pulmonary embolism from lung cancer. In 1964, the Warren Commission concluded that Ruby acted alone in Killing Oswald and was not part of an organized crime underworld plot surrounding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Listed for auction is a stunning display which contains a [DS] document signed by Jack Ruby along with a photograph signed by Dallas Police Officer James Leavelle. The display is centered around an iconic image of Jack Ruby shooting Oswald as he was being transferred from the Dallas Police Department on November 24. The photograph is a b/w which measures 8.00 x 10.00 inches and is signed ''James Leavelle'' in black felt tip pen and is in fine condition and has been authenticated by Beckett Authentication Services. Mounted below is a [DS] document signed by Jack Ruby. The document is a check drawn upon the Bank of Services & Trusts, Dallas, Texas, dated April 18, 1966, and is signed ''Jack Ruby'' in blue pen. The check measures 8.50 x 3.25 inches, it has trivial faults otherwise it is in fine condition and displays wonderfully. Mounted below the check is a professionally engraved metal plaque which reads as follows, ''Jacob Leon Rubenstein ''Jack Ruby'' March 23, 1911 - January 3, 1967. Sunday, November 24, after driving into town and sending a check to one of his employees, Ruby walked to a nearby police headquarters and made his way to the basement. At 11:21 am CST while authorities were preparing to transfer Oswald by private car from the police basement to the nearby county jail - Ruby stepped out from a crowd of reporters and fired his .38 revolver into Oswald's abdomen, fatally wounding him. The shooting was broadcast live nationally and millions of television views witnessed it. There is some evidence that Ruby actions were on a whim, as he left his favorite dog, Sheba in the car before shooting Oswald. James Robert Lavelle was the homicide detective who was escorting John F. Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald through the basement of Dallas Police headquarters when Oswald was shot by Jack Ruby''. The display is stunning and has been professionally assembled in all acid free material with great attention to detail as follows. Each item within the display has been triple matted in a blue/grey linen outer matte and accented with a blue and a black inner matte. The display has been completed in a quality ornate silver/black wood frame to the dimensions of 25.00 x 14.00 inches. It is a wonderful display which depicts an historic event in American history. We promise absolutely no disappointments or simply return. We have listed a nice collection of military, aviation and astronaut autographs.
