Cyrtostachys renda, commonly referred to as lipstick palm or wax palm, is a tropical palm that comes from swampy forests rainforests of the Malay Peninsula, Indonesia and Borneo.
It is probably best known for its shiny scarlet handlescrowns and leaf stems that provide a stunning touch and contrast with the dark green feathery leaves.
In nature, it can reach up to 16 m in height. The leaves are pinnate, up to 120-150 cm long, are dark green outside and gray-green underneath.
Small greenish-white flowers in panicles bloom in summer. The flowers give way to small, ovoid black fruit.
The lipstick palm is a tropical plant that requires tropical growth conditions.
It is winter hardy in USDA zones 11-12, where grows best in evenly moist, well-drained soils with indirect sun. Mature plants tolerate full sun.

In our conditions, it should be grown as potted and terraced plant in the summer.
Cyrtostachys likes high humidity, but does not tolerate indoor drafts.
