SS8® Spring washer designed to help prevent loosening of bolted joints under vibration. This type has a rectangular section and is generally used on hexagon head bolted fixings, manufactured to DIN 127.Spring washer also known as helical spring is specifically designed to provide a compensating spring force and sustain a load or absorb a shock. A spring washer is used to prevent components from loosening. As you tighten a bolt, these metric washers flatten to add tension to the threaded joint and prevent loosening from small amounts of vibration. All of these washers meet a DIN or ASME standard for split lock washer dimensions.SS8® split lock washers have a left-hand helix, which means you can only use them with bolts that have right-hand threads to prevent clockwise rotation from vibration. When tightened, their uneven split ends bite into unhardened nuts and bolts for a tighter hold than curved or wave washers, but only for applications with clockwise rotation. The washers, nuts, and bolts will be deformed when untightened, so none of them can be reused. Do not use these washers on hardened surfaces.Helical spring lock washers are the most common washers used to prevent components from loosening. When compressed, the lock washer will twist and flatten. This prevents loosening.Spring washers work extremely well hence their use in a wide range of assembly applications. Standard spring washers provide the required seating and bearing surface used under a cap screw head.Provide hardened bearing surfaces to create more uniform torque controlProvide more uniform load distribution through controlled radii (section) cutoffProvide protection against looseness resulting from vibration and corrosion
