Teleater 1919-1931

Lizard skin

Serial # = 367581

This museum condition, 3 x 13.5 Teleater binocular is set in lizard skin and gold plated. Serial number 367581 dates it from 1919-1931: this particular serial number is likely closer to 1930. There is ZERO haze and the unit is in excellent working condition. Due to age and use, there is light visible wear to the lizard skin, and some gold plate has worn off too: I’ve done my best to capture those conditions in the images, however, if you need any further assistance please let me know.

This is a historic and elegant “opera glass” in which the characteristic features of a prism binocular are present in an eminent degree. These binoculars were offered in black leather, or two premium models: gold plated brass with deluxe lizard leather, or mother of pearl outer covering. The 3x magnifying power represents the best level for theatre use, as the 'Teleater' embraces at a distance of 100 yards a scene, extending over 21 yards. A spectator seated at a distance of 23 yards from the stage can see all that is contained within a radius of about 7 feet, without having to move one’s head.

Unfortunately the original strap and box have been lost to time. This piece is ready for continued theatre use, and will no doubt be a conversation starter. I like to imagine what famous composers, historic performances, and in general, the times this piece has witnessed. Now you can be part of this instruments stewardship. The successful buyer of this item should indeed copy all this text and keep it somewhere safe, as info on these zeiss vintage pieces are difficult to come by. I also freely give permission to other sellers of this model to copy and paste: we need to keep this history alive!

ABOUT ME & OUR RELATIONSHIP:

I’ve been on eBay since 2003 with 100% positive feedback. You get exactly what you see in the pictures, and as described. Due to the fragile nature and risk of damage in shipping, and in general, the high number of scammers that try to take advantage of fantastic sellers like me; THERE ARE NO RETURNS, and eBay will be brought in to mediate any attempts to return. I’ve provided thorough research to present this item to you. Please be equally responsible by knowing what you are bidding on, doing research, and asking questions. I usually respond within an hour, and rarely longer than a day. Sorry if that sounds a bit off-putting, but you can imagine some of the nonsense I have experienced since 2003 LOL… Truly, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or just to chat about the pieces I’m selling in general… I don’t expect every question or conversation to lead to a sale, and I welcome your research process :-) Hope that helps.
