[   FEATURES AND DETAILS...   ]

Provenance: This is part of a large collection of mining-related books that came up for auction in the state of Maryland.  Many of them (including most of The Mining Magazines) contain a bookplate that says "Ex Libris - Tulip Hill."  They belonged to Lawrence and Mary Maulsby Addicks, whose estate at Rockspring Ave. & Howard St. in Bel Air, MD -- named "Tulip Hill" -- is listed on the Maryland Historic Trust Inventory of Historic Sites.

More about LAWRENCE ADDICKS: He joined Raritan Copper Company in 1900. He was in charge of the testing laboratory and later became assistant to the superintendent. From 1905 to 1914, Addicks was Chief Engineer and Superintendent for U.S. Metals Refining. In 1914, he resigned and became a Consulting Engineer. During World War I, He served on the Naval Consulting Board. He authored many technical papers on copper and copper refining. He also edited “Silver in Industry” published by Reinhold Publishing Company in 1940.

At some point in his career, Addicks received an honorary doctor’s degree. Dr. Addicks, the 13th President of The Electrochemical Society, must have been an excellent speaker since he was chosen to give the banquet address at both the 20th and 50th anniversary meetings of the Society (1922 and 1952). He was a member of many societies: Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Society of Testing Materials, Mining and Metallurgical Society, Institute Mining and Metallurgy, London; and a Fellow of the Society of Electrical Engineering.

[   MORE MINING BOOKS...   ]

I have more issues of The Mining Magazine listed for sale, as well as a few other mining books from that period, all from the same estate.  I can gladly combine shipping ... provided you do not pay until after I've sent you the combined-shipping invoice.  To see what I still have available, search eBay for: MINING SMT (do not use quotation marks).

[   CONDITION...   ]

Well preserved -- from a non-smoking environment.

- Overall bookseller condition: GOOD

- I find no deliberate marks, missing pages, or other signs of abuse.

- Pages are bright, and the books appear to be unread.

- There is evidence that these books were exposed to some degree of dampness during their long life.  There is no significant damage, but evidence of dampstain can be seen at the margin of some pages, some light staining of the boards, and a (very faint) residual damp smell.  Nothing that interferes with good reading.

The above is my good-faith attempt to disclose all noteworthy issues. Keep in mind that vintage/antique books always show their age. (Don't we all!?)  It would be impossible to mention every tiny detail, so please expect that there will be something about this book (or set) that's not perfect.

PLEASE SUPERSIZE ALL PHOTOS, AND ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING/BUYING.  I'LL BE GLAD TO ANSWER.
