In case of using the wateras lubricant, soak the stone in water for 1-2 minutes. In case of using theoil, put a small amount (1-2 drops) of honing oil on the stone’s surface andspread it evenly over the stone with a finger. If the stone absorbs the honingoil, use the larger amount of oil.

FAQ

·        What is the difference between theBoride and stock Edge Pro stones?

There is no difference. Edge Pro stonesare the Boride 6" x 1" x ⅛" (152,4 × 25,4 × 3,175 mm) branded as Edge Pro. The Boride'soffers a wide variety of series and sizes, while Edge Pro offers a limitedassortment. We buy sharpening stones DIRECTLY from Boride Corp. and mount thestones to blanks. That's exactly what Edge Pro company does. The difference iswe keep the names of the original sharpening stones in the names of thefinished products.

·        Can I use the Boride stones and stockEdge Pro stones simultaneously?

Yes,but you must use a thickness compensator because stock Edge Pro stonesare ⅛" (3,175 mm) thick, while the Boride Corp stones, we offerare ¼" (6,35 mm) thick. It’s highly recommended to own athickness compensator because the ability to use sharpening stones of differentthicknesses allows for a high level of flexibility.

·        What if I buy Boride stones ⅛" (3,175 mm) thick (THK - ⅛") to keep all my collection uniform?

No problems, this is possible BUTnot recommended as a long-term solution. The ¼" (6,35mm) thickness (THK) is becoming a sharpening community's standard for EdgePro sharpening stones. If you keep your entire collection ⅛" (3,175mm) thick, you will not be able to use many good stones. You will also have topurchase ⅛" (3,175 mm) stones more often than ¼"(6,35 mm) stones due to their shorter life cycle.

·        5 sharpening stones are too many for me- I'm not the professional sharpener. What should I buy if I want to use it athome?

Consider buying Ruby 150, T2 400 and PC1200. These 3 stones are the best Boride stones for sharpening knives for athome solutions.

·        Can I buy CS-HD and use it to sharpenall my knives? If it's okay for hard steel, it should be even better for softsteel, right?

No, we do not recommend this.CS-HD will wear extremely fast when used on soft steel, making CS-HDuneconomical for this kind of steels. If you own knives of both hard and softsteel, consider buying two sets of stones.

·        What are the pros and cons of ¼" (6,35 mm) and ⅛" (3,175 mm)
thicknesses for sharpening stones?

All stones wear as they are used, and as a result the thicker stones have longer life cycles. However,it's easier to use thinner stones on Edge Pro sharpeners because of their lowerweight. The ¼" (6,35 mm) thickness offers a perfect balancebetween life cycle and weight and has become the sharpening community'sstandard for Edge Pro format sharpening stones. When made of hardmaterial, ⅛" (3,175 mm) stones are good as ultra-finesharpening stones, for example alumina ceramic or natural stones.
