Specification:
tii’s Totel Failsafe® Station Protector Modules are the basic components of tii Station Protectors,
and the tii 356M2 module consists of a tii Heavy Duty three-electrode gas tube surge arrester
of narrow breakdown voltage range, a failshort mechanism and backup airgaps.
KEY PRODUCT BENEFITS
X The entire assembly is completely encapsulated to prevent moisture entry and
environmental contamination.
X The completely self-contained unit is provided with a corrosion-resistant ground strap
and two threaded binding posts for service wire and station wire connections.
X Totel Failsafe® protection is provided in three ways:
1) The narrow breakdown voltage range gas tube operates on overvoltage surges and
shunts the transient to the ground.
2) The failshort device operates under power cross conditions to permanently and safely
ground the line.
X 3) The backup airgap provides surge protection in the unlikely event the gas tube
arrester vents.
X The tii 356M2 may be employed in a variety of single and multiple pair protector
assemblies and NIDs. When mounted in a tii station protector or network interface device
(NID), the assembly is UL listed in the Signal Circuit Protector category.
X The tii 356M2 uses the tii 11 three-electrode balanced gas tube with narrow breakdown
voltage range.
X The fast acting and narrow breakdown voltage range of the balanced gas tube
improves protection coordination between primary and secondary protectors.
X The gas tube recovers after a surge, and remains ready for continued operation
normally for many years. This results in reduced maintenance cost over the life of an
installation.
INDUSTRY STANDARDS
X Listed to UL 497 in the Signal Circuit Protector category when mounted in a tii station
protector or network interface device (NID).
X Surge handling and life capabilities exceed the objectives of Telcordia GenericRequirement
GR-1361 CORE.
