Description:
Rhythmic, melodic and black metal. This is Sanctimonious Order, at least what we can hear on this recording. This is the band's first EP released on 1999 and if the rest of the releases are like this then I think I have found my new favourite band.

Sanctimonious Order play black metal with lots of melody. Yes you are reading correctly, melody, they do not fall into the clichés of black metal, raw sound, fast riffs and heavily distorted voice and guitars. They kinda have their own musical style, if I am allowed to say that. Their riffs and rhythms, even the voice, are closer to thrash metal rather than to black metal, if I were to describe it I would say that the band plays thrash metal with black metal sound. The music is divided between the two songs, the first one is based on fast guitars, while the second one is mainly mid-tempo and more melodic.

Melody, yes there is actually a black metal group that has a lot of melody in its songs. In the first track (Christalized Blood) there is a very melodic solo/lead guitar part in the middle of the song. It's one of these things that you listened to and you get goosebumps. In the second track, the melody starts right away, as soon as the music starts and it goes along with the rhythm for the whole duration of the song.

The guitars are tuned in the right distortion, not very raw and not very soft. The bass is buried under the drums and guitars, sometimes it can be heard very clearly but mainly you know there is a bass somewhere only because of the volume it gives to the music. The drums can be heard very distinctively, sometimes they play complex patterns to fill in with the melody and sometimes they just follow the lead guitar. The voice is a bit distorted but not to the extremes, it could actually be that the singer is singing with his real voice. All in all the production is at satisfactory levels, not the super high clean production (that bands like Cradle of Filth or Dimmu Borgir have) but dirtier and with the high frequencies mainly cut out.
