This DVD (and any other DVD released anywhere in the world) will play just fine on any multi-region DVD player, bought in USA or elsewhere. It will also play on most computers' DVD drives. Some consumers actually own a multi-region DVD player, without knowing it. All you need to do if you own such Philips, Akai, CyberHome or other DVD player is to use your remote control to switch it to multi-region mode. As such features are almost always not documented by the DVD player's manufacturer, we'd recommend you check your DVD player's capabilities by searching the web for the words 'videohelp DVD Player and Blu-ray Player region codes' and choosing the very first link found.
For our USA customers, if you need an advise for a inexpensive ($30-$40) US DVD player, please feel free to contact us or to read our recommenations here: Our DVD player recommendations. Please keep in mind that we do not sell DVD players.

This DVD does not contain pornographic material and may be lawfully sold to and viewed by minors.

Unfortunately, we don't have the capacity to inspect every DVD title to determine whether subtitles can be removed or not. Therefore, when purchasing the DVD, which contains subtitles, the assumption should be that subtitles are not removable. However, you can try DVD's menu to turn off subtitles or try 'Subtitles' button on your DVD player's remote control to turn off the subtitles track. If these steps don't work, then unfortunately subtitles are not optional.

Synopsis:
Directors Eva Mulvad and Anja Al Erhayem offer a compelling portrait of the courageous twenty-seven year old woman who sparked outrage among hard-line Muslim leaders by speaking out against corrupt warlords at the 2003 Grand Council of tribal elders. A tenacious woman who has dedicated her life to traveling into impoverished rural areas and pleading with women to "expose the enemies of peace, women, and democracy," Malalai Joya's outspoken ways have resulted in undying support from her many dedicated constituents, and ominous death threats from those whose power is threatened by her bold stance. September 2005 marked Afghanistan's first parliamentary elections in over thirty-five years, and with 248 assembly seats for the taking Joya remained determined to ensure that her voice was heard. From her efforts as a gentle folk mediator and advocate to her fierce determination to enlighten a nation, this poetic portrait of a popular hero from the dusty Farah Province is sure to inspire viewers from all backgrounds.

In 2005 Afghanistan had their first democratic election after the war. We follow political active Malalai Joya in her trial campaign to get elected. Due to her pointing out several Taliban warlords wanting them prosecuted for their crimes against the Afghan people, she has since been exposed to several death threats over the last few years, and has been under constant protection. But in her home county she is regarded as a national hero and has great support for her political endeavor.

In September 2005, Afghanistan held its first parliamentary elections in 35 years. Among the candidates for 249 assembly seats was Malalai Joya, a courageous, controversial 27-year-old woman who had ignited outrage among hard-liners when she spoke out against corrupt warlords at the Grand Council of tribal elders in 2003.
