A UNIQUE VENETIAN CARNIVAL HEADDRESS, HAND-MADE FROM SILK, FEATHERS, GOLD APPLIQUÉ AND MURANO GLASS BEADS

PERFECT FOR SUMMER PARTIES, WEDDINGS AND FESTIVALS.

This Pulcinella headdress is inspired by the traditions of the Venice Carnival and the Commedia del'Arte street theatre of the 18th century. Pulcinella is a comic sidekick of Arlecchino-Harlequin who traditionally wears a long-nosed mask and ill-fittting clothes. A hand-made headdress created in our atelier in Padova, Veneto from watered silk and ikat silk from Uzbekistan and decorated with modern and vintage Murano beads from Costantini. This headpiece is decorated with tiny pieces of cutlery - a reference to the fact that Harlequin is a thief. A stock joke of carnival theatre was that stolen cutlery falls from Harlequin's costume. Designed to be worn on the brow, not covering the face - much more wearable and comfortable than a mask! We've all had enough of wearing those.

MATERIALS

Every Harlequin Guild headdress is individually finished and unique.

The Harlequin Guild's materials are sourced from all over Venice's former trading empire. We use new and vintage ikat, khan-atlas, adras and raw silks from Uzbekistan. Our damask cloth comes from the textile mills of Veneto. For decoration we use hand-torn silk organza ribbons, ostrich and pheasant feathers, vintage and new Murano glass beads and hand-embroidered appliqué decoration.

THE HARLEQUIN GUILD is a group of artists and artisans based in Venice. Our headdresses are hand-decorated in artists' studios and in small, family owned workshops around the Veneto region.

We pride ourselves in using only natural silk and cotton fabrics.
