50th Anniversary of the Glider Pilot Regiment commemorative cover signed Staff Sergeant Ansell AAC

JS(AC)61b RAF cover, which is also part of the Airborne Force series dual numbered AF7. The cover artwork depicts scenes from 50 years of the Glider Pilot regiment with aircraft such as the Hotspur Glider, a Horsa Glider being tugged by a Halifax tug as used in the D-Day landings in June 1944 and during Operation Market Garden which took place at Arnhem in September 1944. Artwork also shows Horsa and Hadrian gliders coming into land wearing their D-Day invasion black and white stripes. A Gun detachment after unloading a Horsa glider, Men on the 6th Airbourne unloading a Tetrarch light tank from a Hamilcar glider and a trainee pliot being shown the instrument panel of a hotspur glider.

Cover bears insignia of the Airbourne forces and also that of the Glider Pilot Regiment. Cover has 40th Anniversary of the Accession 24p stamp and is cancelled with BFPS 2326 postmark with a Glider Regiment handstamp for the Middle Wallop International Air Show 9 May 1992. Cover was flown in a Gazelle AH1 XX381 of 2 Flight Army Air Corps from Netheravon which was the original home of The Glider Pilot Regiment to the Museum of Army Flying at Middle Wallop.
