A very rare piece, made by the very well-known glass manufacturer Harrach.
Made in Bohemia in the second half of the 19th century. (Circa 1865). Glass with this kind of
painting was made by Harrach after 1862 (after the London World Fair in 1862).
In the second half of the 19th century classicism and ancient antiquity became a source of
inspiration, especially in the 1960s. Around that time, the foundry tried to produce glass that
was to imitate ancient Greek ceramics by means of paintings. In England the ancient trends
were mainly represented by engravings on crystal glass. The culmination of this was brought
by the London World's Fair in 1862. This also stimulated Harrach to continue this production.
In the ensuing period, it is represented by a large group of products made of white opaque glass,
mostly vases, but also trays on legs, pots and other shapes, again decorated with ornaments and
figurative motifs based on contemporary idealized ideas about antiquity.

Een zeer zeldzaam stuk, gemaakt door de zeer bekende glasfabrikant Harrach. Vervaardigd in Bohemen,
in de tweede helft van de 19e eeuw. Circa 1865. Glas met dit soort beschilderingen werden door Harrach gemaakt na 1862.
(Na de London World Fair in 1862).
In de tweede helft van de 19e eeuw, en vooral in de jaren '60 werden classicisme en de oudheid een inspiratiebron.
Rond die tijd probeert de gieterij onder andere glas te produceren dat door middel van beschilderingen het oude Griekse
keramiek moest imiteren. In Engeland werden de oude tendensen voornamelijk gepresenteerd in de graveringen op kristalglas.
Het hoogtepunt hiervan werd gebracht door de Wereldtentoonstelling van Londen in 1862. Hierop werd ook Harrach gestimuleerd
om deze productie voort te zetten.
In de daaropvolgende periode wordt het vertegenwoordigd door een grote groep producten gemaakt van wit ondoorzichtig glas,
meestal vazen, maar ook bakjes op pootjes, potten en andere vormen, wederom versierd met ornamenten en figuratieve motieven
gebaseerd op hedendaagse geïdealiseerde ideeën over de oudheid.
