19th Century Pair of Carrara Marble Nymphs & Cherubs Wall Plaques Reliefs.

Artist: Edward William Wyon (English, 1811-1885).

Cast marble reliefs nicely framed with bronze coin stamped on the back.

English registry mark on the back.

Measure: 12.5 x 5 in. ( Approx. 18.5 x 11 in. framed).

Condition: Very good condition.

Edward William Wyon was born into a family of prominent medalist, his father being Thomas Wyon Sr, whole board the official title Chief Engraver of the Seals. He became a prolific Victorian sculptor who was best known for his portrait bust, including preparing goodly number of works for reproduction in Parisian porcelain. He started at the Royal Academy school from 1829 and exhibit at his work there from 1831.

Wyon exhibited profusely at Royal Academy, his subjects being mostly porch and bus and portrait medallions.

In the 1870’s Wyons public work includes caryatids for the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge.
