Product Description

A very rare investment grade bottle of 1936 vintage Mortlach which was bottled by Gordon and Macphail in the very early 1970's. This bottle has been carbon dated at Oxford University and is supplied with a copy of the authentication paperwork. Also included is a small sample bottle so you will actually be able to taste this rare Whisky without affecting the value of your bottle.

Nose: Old leather boots found down a coal mine, malt loaf with black plum jam, old wood resin, tobacco leaf, minty eucalyptus, blackcurrant cordial, coffee grinds, old library books, black treacle cured ham.

Palate: Malty and savoury with old leather and coal tar smoke, wax candles, sultana butter, nut shells, dark mint, blackcurrant , some herbal, copper, old wood but holds together well for something that has been in bottel for nearly five decades. Quite thick and oily body with an almost beef stock/consomme mouthfeel, some smoke and mocha late on.

Finish: Stewed black fruit, aromatic wood tea chests, nut brittle, old fashioned toffee, menthol and eucalyptus, old sherry wood, coal fire smoke and a savoury old leather and cured meat dryness.

A fascinating insight into what Sherry cask aged Single malt would have tasted like in your Grandparents day and also a Mortlach distilled with old coal fired stills and peated barley. A wonderful timepiece of a malt that is still ticking along nicely.
