You Must Replace Your Formatter Board.

A 05:10 error on the front panel of the printer indicates a formatter card failure.

This issue usually does not require on-site service, as the formatter card is a user-replaceable part. I even have a YouTube video showing how easy it is to replace.

 

What is the right part number?

 HP revs up part numbers with new lots produced. On this model, there were three different lot numbers (CH336-60001, CH336-67001, CH336-80001) for the same part.

We had a complicated problem with a wide carriage HP DesignJet printer.  The repair was extremely  difficult to diagnose.  Turns out it needed 2 parts and also had a broken trailing cable guide – three issues in total.  We found Tom Bush and  DesignJet Parts Fast by doing a search for how to repair the HP DesignJet on You Tube.  Previous to contacting Tom, our local HP plotter repair guy gave us an estimate for repair in excess of $1,000.  Tom was able to provide us with the parts for less cost than our repair guy’s (parts) estimate.  We then could use our IT guy to install the parts using Tom’s informative repair videos.  Further, Tom made himself available to us to assist with any repair-related questions that were not addressed in the videos.  We ordered the parts from Tom around 2 pm. West Coast time.  We had the parts in our hands before 10 am. on the next day.  The expedited shipping cost was embedded in the cost that Tom quoted:  no hidden fees.  The parts were new (not refurbished), genuine HP, and in HP factory-sealed cartons.  Tom promptly followed-up with tracking and other information and questions that we had.  And here is what further separates Tom from the field:  post-sale / post-repair Tom reached out to us to see how our repair went and how the plotter was performing.  Tom had already made the parts sale and there was no motivation for any further follow-up at this point, yet he did.  This is the very essence of superior service.

Tom was a huge help. Our IT guy said that this machine was outdated and just to buy a new  one which is around $4,500-$6,000. I reached out to Tom for help due to the 05:10 error and  he told me to replace the formatter board. Easy plug an play, less than a 5 min fix and it  is back up and running like it should for less then $300! Thank you very much Tom!

Tom was very helpful and worked with me to see if I would be able to put an HP-GL/2 into my  HP Designjet 500 that didn’t have one installed. He sent it to me to see if it would work  and it worked flawlessly allowing me to print from a couple of our computers that haven’t  been able to send a print to our plotter for years.
