Gaining in popularity,i t has three times more Vitamin A than normal spinach. Orach makes for a succulent but tender babyleaf or if you can wait for more mature leaves they can be used as a warm weather spinach substitute, their mild flavour making them perfect for a multitude of uses - soups, stews, pastas, quiches etc., This variety sports very attractive two-toned, arrow-shaped pink and green leaves with magenta underside. Those baby leaves really make a beautiful and tasty addition to a salad.

Direct sow outdoors in summer (March - September) or in an unheated greenhouse during the autumn and winter months. Grow salad leaves in well prepared, fertile, moist soil in sun or semi shade. Sow seeds thinly at a depth of 1cm (½") in drills 38cm (15") apart in soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. When large enough to handle, thin out seedlings to 10cm (4") apart for baby leaves or to 30cm (12") for mature plants. Water in dry weather to inhibit bolting.
