RAFA 6 The Major Assault Battle of Britain cover signed Fighter Ace Wing Commander P P C Barthropp DFC AFC

Cover produced for the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. Cover depicts events from the Major Assault 13-15 August 1940. Cover depicts RAF 73 Squadron badge, Battle of Britain on RAF Roundel and III Gruppe Kampfgeschwader 26 Crest.
Cover depicts HE111 and BF110 of Luftlotte 5 being engaged by Hurricanes of 79 squadron and Spitfires of 73 Squadron approaching the Durham coast on 15th August 1940. Cover also depicts the Junkers JEBBA-5 of 3/KG 30 shot down by a hurricane of 73 squadron near Flamborough head on 15th August and ARF Detling being under attack by JU87s on 13 August 1940. 

Cover has been flown in VC10 from RAF Brize Norton to Flamborough Head and then back along the tracks taken by the Heinkel 111s, Junkers 88s and BF110s of Luftlotte 5 in their massed attacks in North Eastern England between 12.15 and 13.12 hours on Thursday 15th August 1940 from their bases in Norway and Denmark. Then onto Bergen, Oslo, Hamburg, RAF Wildenrath and back to RAF Brize Norton overflying the former Battle of Britain airfield at detling.
