The Set :

You can select :

-
A 100x50mm pair of 1xMMO in plate + 1Cathode plate
-
An simple mesh Anode of 150x60mm as draw+pictures

- A M6 200x60mm pair of 1xMMO in mesh + 1Cathode plate
- A M8 200x60mm pair of 1xMMO in mesh + 1Cathode plate
- A spacer + M8 200x60mm pair of 1xMMO in mesh + 1Cathode plate
- A complete lid-set for laboratory electrolysis or swiming pool. (
everything needed for use except the PSU, regulator, and the jar)

Specification :

- Anode : MMO made of Ru-Ir coating on Titanium substrate provides excellent resistance to chemicals, and oxidation.

- Electrodes size (as the pictures):
-
100x50x1mm of plate working surface + thread connectors,
- 200x60x1,2mm
of working surface + thread connectors
- Cathode : pure titanium plate, same size, Grade 1.

- The lifetime is very high, but depends on the use conditions (15 000 hours in swiming pool)
- Max current is 200mA/Cm2 for chlorate, less for hypochlorite.
-
The coating is 12g/m² 50/50 Ir/Ru for the 200x60mm model and 8g/m² 30/70 Ir/Ru for the 100x50mm model (this point impact the prices).
- Max working temperature:
near 70~80°C (higher temperature = slightly shorter lifetime but better yield for chlorate. Hypochlorite must stay under 40°C)
- This anode allow to electrolyze from chloride to chlorate in one step.
- The lid is 120x120x2mm in white PVC (more resistant to chlorine gas than PMMA old version).
- Durable and reliable laboratory equipment.
- This coating is reliable and is enable to reach 75 % of yield at 65°C during thousands of hours without visible degradation. (with 3 or 4g of persulfate/liter).

Warning:

- Put the « + » wire on the Anode (the dark one) and the « – » on the 1 or 2 Cathodes.
- Ru-Ir coating is quite sensitive : never chock or strike them.
- Avoid fluorine and all fluorine salt (persulfate works very well).
- Respect the max current to avoid fast degradation.
- Don’t reverse polarity, it will rapidly destroyed the electrodes.
- Gas are dangerous and flammable, the running cell MUST work in appropriate place.
- Read the manual.
- In some countries, for non-laboratories, some chlorate and their concentrations are restricted.
- It is strongly advised to “brush” the threaded parts of the connectors with a metallic brush : steel or brass bristles (welding brush works very well), with protection arround the lower part of the connector.
This operation is very important if the temperature seems to rise on the connector, with a gradient above +20°C from the brine’s temperature.
- On some older anode models, the connector is covered with a black coating (which resists corrosion) but it is also a poor electrical conductor.
It is recommended to brush this coating, although 95% of my clients have not noticed any particular problems by keeping it.
