University Optics Or 40mm 1.25" orthoscopic eyepiece

This is an extremely rare eyepiece. I have personally only encountered this one specimen, but I have been informed that another one was sold on Astromart around 2003-2004 years ago.

I do not know its age or the exact history behind it, but it is probably from the 1970s and might have been a prototype or a limited production eyepiece.

The apparent field of view is not specified, but I would estimate it to be just in excess of 40°. The eye lens is recessed about 20mm from the rim of the eyecup. 

Optical performance is excellent.  

In good used condition. There are some small spots on the eye lens that could possibly be removed through cleaning. The condition of the optical surfaces is otherwise very good, with no visible scratches, haze or fungus. The exterior housing is also in good condition, with only a few minor scuffs to the surface (including some missing paint close to the eyecup rim) as shown in the photos. Comes with the original box in addition to aftermarket caps and bolt case.
