There’s nothing better for lifting the garden out of the bleakness of winter than the cheery sight of snowdrops emerging in January and February. Galanthus flore pleno will definitely give you that happy feeling that spring’s just around the corner every time you step outside

Also known as a double snowdrop, although growing to a modest height of around 15cm this variety is actually fairly small in size, just like most snowdrops.

Beautiful flower heads with pure white petals surrounding smaller inner green marked petals for added interest.

Very easy to grow – plant the bulbs in autumn and they’ll flower from January without any intervention. This classic woodland bulb looks great planted under trees or planted in pockets around shrubs as well as in borders and pots.

Soil: any well drained soil

Like many other flower bulbs snowdrops demand that the soil has adequate drainage. If water pools in the area where you are planting your corms, it will most likely lead to the corms rotting. Poorly drained soggy and waterlogged soil is a common reason for them to failure so please make sure the entire flower bed is adequately drained. When planting in a heavy soil, you can improve drainage by adding some sand or grit (or vermiculite, if available) into each hole under the bottom of the bulbs.
