Big Brother and the Holding Company is an American rock band formed in '65 that featured Janis Joplin as lead singer. They were part of the same psychedelic music scene that produced the Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service & Jefferson Airplane. Their album Cheap Thrills (’68) is considered 1 of the masterpieces of the psychedelic sound of San Francisco. It hit #1 on the USA Billboard Chart, ranked #338 in Rolling Stone's the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list & is included in the book, 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
