Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) was an English writer, illustrator, natural scientist and conservationist,
and was best known for her children's books featuring animals.
Beatrix was educated at home by governesses, isolated from other children.
She had numerous pets and spent many holidays in Scotland and the Lake District,
developing a love of landscape, flora and fauna which she closely observed and painted.
She wrote thirty books, twenty-three of which were tales for children.
Her books continue to sell throughout the world in many languages, her stories retold in songs,
films, ballet, animations, films and television.
