This is a bolt on kit designed by Gwyn Lewis 4x4 to fit Land Rover Defender 90, Discovery 1 & Range Rover classic vehicles. The main aim of the kit is to provide long travel suspension and ride quality for off road applications, the shocks required are a + 5.5 inch, 11 inch travel, the same shock fits front and rear, the turrets are 2 inches taller than standard to allow room for the longer shock length, this allows the spring to compress on full upward travel, upward travel is more important than drop out as you want your wheel to move upwards to get over obstacles, the turret also has a built in spring re locator to guide the spring back in if it dislocates. , the spring retainers hook around the inner part of the coil spring allowing the spring to lift off the spring seat on the wheel side to take the pressure off twisting the spring on full drop out, the turrets and the spring retainers are galvanized and the turret securing rings are electro plated for corrosion resistance. 

The rear shocks required are a + 5.5 inch, 11 inch travel, Pin/Pin type the same as the front shocks, by using the Pin on the top mount there is more movement in all directions, the trouble with the standard Eye top mount is it can move front to back, but sideways movement is restricted and causes the Eye to brake off when longer shocks are fitted, by using the same shock on the front and the back you can carry 1 spare if you want, the rear shock mounts are moved forward and upwards to allow room for the longer shock length, this allows the spring to compress on full upward travel, upward travel is more important than drop out as you want your wheel to move upwards to get over obstacles, but this kit also gives a lot of downward movement as well, keeping your wheels on the ground at all times helps on traction and takes the pressure off the drive train.

The
rear spring re locators guide the rear spring back in as normal but on extreme drop out they catch the last coil of the spring to stop it from coming past the re locator, the hook does not limit the drop out in any way as on the Land Rover suspension when one wheel is pushed up the oposit side is pushed down as it pivots on the A frame joint, jacking the vehicle up is quite simple by placing a round bar or a wheel brace through spring and re locator to minimize axle movement (to hold spring up) when using a hi lift jack.

The rear spring retainers
will clamp the spring to the spring seat more secure than the flat bar type, they are multi hole so you can position the spring to catch on our challenge rear spring re locator hook, they are made out of 3 mm galvanized steel plate and pressed into the spring shape which will help stop springs braking, which is common on the thicker flat bar type retaining plates.

I designed this kit many years ago for off road use, but with the right shocks and springs fitted the on road handling is very impressive to, this kit does not lift the vehicle it is the springs that do that, you can use this kit on a 4 inch lift down to standard height, but mainly a 1 inch or 2 inch lift is what i recommend it for, all these items are galvanized for corrosion resistance.

1 x Pair GL1050 Challenge front shock turrets with built in spring relocators GALVANIZED.
1 x Pair GL1053 Heavy Duty 6mm front turret securing rings.
1 x Pair GL1054 Heavy Duty front spring retainers GALVANIZED.
1 x Pair GL1058 Challenge rear shock mounts GALVANIZED.
1 x Pair GL1070 Heavy Duty rear spring retainers (round type) GALVANIZED.
1 x Pair GL1064 Heavy Duty 6mm Challenge rear spring relocators (hook type) GALVANIZED.

All nuts and bolts required to fit this kit will be supplied

Please note that this kit does not fit 110 as they have larger rear springs, 110 kits are available contact us for details.

+5.5 inch, 11 inch travel shocks will be required to complete this kit.
