This DVD will NOT play on standard DVD players in USA, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Caribbean, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Taiwan, Chile.

This DVD (and any other DVD released anywhere in the world) will play just fine on any multi-region DVD player, bought in USA or elsewhere. It will also play on most computers' DVD drives. Some consumers actually own a multi-region DVD player, without knowing it. All you need to do if you own such Philips, Akai, CyberHome or other DVD player is to use your remote control to switch it to multi-region mode. As such features are almost always not documented by the DVD player's manufacturer, we'd recommend you check your DVD player's capabilities by searching the web for the words 'videohelp DVD Player and Blu-ray Player region codes' and choosing the very first link found.
For our USA customers, if you need an advise for a inexpensive ($30-$40) US DVD player, please feel free to contact us or to read our recommenations here: Our DVD player recommendations. Please keep in mind that we do not sell DVD players.

This DVD does not contain pornographic material and may be lawfully sold to and viewed by minors.

Synopsis:
Regards sur le réel presents 6 significant documentary films produced in French in Belgium during the 20th century. Thanks both to the view they offer us of reality and their reflection on its form, these are works that left their mark on the singular art of the documentary film. These various views question, search for and approach reality in their own way in an attempt to address the why and how of cinema.

Sunday (1963)
Leisure in a big town. What is more boring? What is more empty and meaningless? Look at that silly changing of the guard outside the Royal Palace or that movie theater bombastic advertisement "Adventure is escapism". Consider those deserted tables outside a café or those kids playing hide and seek at the top of a building under construction. The viewer is caught in the whirlwind of ordinary boredom.
Week-end (1972)
Michel, a civil servant, spends a weekend at the sea with his family. Based on this anecdote, this 'fictional documentary' addresses the urgent themes of '72: the alienation of urban life, the excesses of a consumerist society, commercialization of hobbies, etc. In short, the infamous 'quality of life' so dear to sociologists.
Spelling Love (1985)
Mary Jimenez goes back to her native Peru after many years of living in Belgium. She attempts to understand her relationship with her mother, and meets other people whom she was close to at stages in her life.
Lovers on Trial (1992)
The trial of Marie-Louis Gosset and Christian Fernandez for the murder of Gosset's common-law husband.
Marchienne, or where to live a dot's live (1993)
Marchienne, the end of the world, where madness and absurdity meet every day. Marchienne-au-pont was once the main centre of inland water transport. At that time, men produced quality steel and blew glass, while others, from sun-ridden countries went down the mines. Not long ago, Walloon history was written there. This document/quest was made in a sick country, which one could rename 'the asshole of the world'.
Letter from a Filmmaker to His Daughter (2002)
Lettre d'un cinéaste à sa fille is a playful, free and personal film in the form of a letter, a film interwoven with a thousand stories knit together with different textures, a book of images where a filmmaker shows the images and the stories he wants to share.
