Schizolobium Parahyba - Brazilian Fern Tree - Brazilian Fire Tree

One of the fastest growing trees in the world comes from tropical Central and South America, from Mexico to Brazil. Schizolobium parahyba can grow over 6 m a year and eventually reach 40 m in height. It is a slender, moderately large tree that initially produces a tall, sparsely branched trunk with a smooth, pale bark that contains very large, two-ringed leaves that make it look like a tree fern or palm tree. Mature trees produce a spreading canopy with a stunning display of yellow flowers in the dry season that cover the entire canopy. The wood is soft and light.
