Today we are delighted to offer for sale a great set of 3 antique shaving mugs with an equestrian theme!

Dating to the early 20th century, these beautiful mugs harken back to a time where shaving was a much more elaborate process than it tends to be today. The shaving mug was an important part of this, and men took pride in them. All are crafted of heavy white porcelain, with rounded handles, painted horse themes and gilt trim.

The first mug in the set depicts a two horses, one white, one red, in an autumn field. Wild plants frame either side of the picture, which is a close-up of the two horses' heads. Above this scene, "FRED STAHL" is stamped in gilt. Gold trim also highlights the upper rim, the flared pedestal base and the round handle. Unstamped on the underside.

The second mug in the set depicts a steadfast brown horse wearing a lead, walking, riderless, through a field. His grey tail is lifted. Gilt abstract floral designs flank the scene. Above this image, "C.S. HOUSEMAN" is stamped in gilt. Gold trim also highlights the upper rim, the inside of the cup near the rim, the flared pedestal base and the round handle. Stamped "T&V" for Tressemanes and Vogt and "Lang & Co., Baltimore MD" on the underside.

The third mug in the set shows two horses, one black with a white blaze, the other white, in a field. They are running close together in a muddy patch, and appear spooked. In the background, a red lightning bolt appears to be hitting a tree. Gilt abstract designs flank the scene. Above this image, "DEWEY B. KLEIN" is stamped in gilt. Thick gold trim also highlights the upper rim and the pedestal base. Stamped "Feida China Germany" on the underside.

Mugs present well and are offered in good antique condition, with minor wear/scuffing and patina commensurate with age. Loss of gilding is present, along with minimal paint loss, but no chips or cracks have been noted. Sold as-found so please review all photos before purchasing.
