Nostradamus' influential and culturally important 'Prophecies'.
This work was originally published in 1555, and became immensely popular over the following centuries.
The prophecies are collected in this volume as poems, quatrains, and verses, divided into ten centuries in 942 quatrains, all of which are present in this volume. Nostradamus claimed that he based his predictions on judicial astrology, though it's clear he also got a lot of inspiration from Greek works and the Bible.
Typically the predications don't follow a chronological coherence, and were written in French, Greek, Latin, and Occitan. Most of the quatrains deal with the topic of disasters, after which Nostradamus gained the rumour of being able to predict the future.
Nostradamus was a French astrologer, who was believed to have supernatural powers of prophecy after the publication of this work, gaining a lot of supporters.
This edition includes a brief life of Nostradamus.
