One packet of 12, 25 or 50 seeds.

Cyclamen purpurascens is a hardy alpine perennial suitable for a rock garden or an alpine container garden (a trough or pan). It can also be grown in any moist, well-drained soil in a fairly shady spot sheltered from summer heat and strong sunlight. Leaves remain green over winter. New leaves and flowers begin to appear in summer. Seeds can be collected the following year when ripe pods begin to open. The round tuber increases each year but may not be divided. Plants can also be kept indoors in pots in a bright window, but not in hot sunlight. Their sweetly fragrant flowers may be best enjoyed indoors.

Seeds are collected from the plant in the photos, growing for more than 8 years in our garden in Edmonton, Canada.

Seeds have been tested for germination. Germination is slow and irregular. A few seeds may germinate within the first month, while most others will need several months. We start these seeds on moistened paper in a Petri dish or small lidded condiment container (third photo) wrapped in dark plastic to exclude light. Detailed instructions will be included with the seeds.
