An outstanding & very charming vintage hand blocked cotton muslin large kalamkari panel or cover. A tree of life variation with birds and florals and very unique to find scenic and figural elements with horses, a camel, flamingo, elephant, architecture, a boat & train and more. Somewhat naive which is the charm in these textiles as they are one of a kind hand done creations.This is a light cotton gauze type muslin.Most likely India. About the 1960's, possibly a bit older.
***Condition~ used in the past~ overall strong and stable, appears clean and well maintained for it's age & former use~ albeit there are holes to the very top and one upper edge where it may have been tacked to a wall possibly at some point. Also one at the bottom and side. I have photo’d these so please view all photos. The main body is good.
It is seamed in the center (2 joined lengths to form the width) A couple of areas in the seam are loose and may need mended, small & easy to do or leave as found. The hues are fantastic, somewhat overall softened in the floral areas.
