Cao Cao (155—220) was a warlord and poet in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25—220 CE) in China history. It’s hard to find a man combined of brutality and poetic quality together, while he was such a man hard to believe.

One of Cao Cao's most well-known poems, written right before the Battle of Red Cliffs in the winter of 208, is A Short Song (短歌行), adopted as follows:
