King's X is an American rock band that combines progressive metal, funk & soul with vocal arrangements influenced by gospel, blues & British Invasion rock groups. They were pivotal in the early development of progressive metal & produced a series of early records considered essential within the genre. Their lyrics are largely based on the members' struggles with religion & self-acceptance. King's X was ranked #83 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. Throughout their career they secured opening slots on arena tours for bands like Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Scorpions, Pearl Jam, Cheap Trick, Mötley Crüe, as well as the Woodstock '94 festival. They continue to tour & perform live. King's X have been cited as an influence to acts such as Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, The Smashing Pumpkins, Pantera, Dream Theater, Devin Townsend & Soil.
