Traditional Cretan Sariki Turban/Bandana/Scarf Handmade 100% Greek Finest Silk

Attention please!

This product is not a commercial product or a mass production product but one unique and rare piece of traditional folk art.

This Sariki is a special traditional handicraft and its knitting has been done with a lot of patience and love, by hand, with great attention to detail, in a very special way of knitting with the name "Migaki" and exclusively with selected pure Greek silk of superior quality from Soufli village of Evros.

The "Migaki" knitting is very elaborate and dense for this and the result is luxurious and impressive.

The production of this kind of folk art should be subsidized by the state because it is traditional and so special that there are already very few older women who know and can knit by hand this kind of knitting, with the result that the product is already very rare and hard to find, in the near future there will be nothing like it available and this art will be lost in time.

Description:

Sariki is an integral part of Cretan traditional menswear. It is used until today in white or black, depending on the occasion and tied to the head or thrown loosely on the shoulders, representing the free and revolutionary spirit of the Cretans.

Those special handicrafts are usually knitted by mothers for their sons in black or white, depending on the reason we want to wear it.

The white or off-white Sariki symbolizes joy, the joyful event and is worn on joyful occasions and any kind of happy social event.

The black Sariki symbolizes valor, pride but also sadness, mourning, revolution and war.

These traditional shawls are handmade and special care is required to avoid any damage. They must be washed by hand, not spread in the sun and gently ironed
