Unusual Satsuma Meiji Period Vase Early Japanese Morriage. Gourd-shaped, earthenware Satsuma with heavy gold gilding. Very uncommon form of Satsuma featuring an early example of morriage application. The morriage is applied in the form of ceramic clay flowers. There is also a handpainted flower on the backside of the vase. Sides of vase have applied earthenware handles. Wear to some of the gold gilding, particularly on the handles. One of the handles has a repair in the form of a hairline. The morriage has some very minor nicks along the edges of the flowers and the foot rim also has a few small chips. The lip has a small hairline as well. Overall in good condition.
