Gary Morris (b.Dec. 7, 1948) is an American singer who charted over 25 singles on the USA Billboard Country Charts, including 5 #1 hits. His breakthrough single Headed for a Heartache (’81) hit #8 on the Country Chart in ‘81. Album Why Lady Why (’83) focused more on ballads, with single Wind Beneath My Wings showcasing his soaring tenor & becoming 1 of the 1st hit versions of the song. The album also featured the ballad The Love She Found in Me, the mid-tempo Velvet Chains, & the up-tempo title track; all hit the Top 10 Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, as did his duet You're Welcome to Tonight (with Lynn Anderson). After 2 more hits in ‘84 - Between Two Fires, & Second Hand Heart - Morris scored his 1st #1 country hit in ‘85 with Baby Bye Bye. 3 more #1 hits followed: I'll Never Stop Loving You, 100% Chance of Rain, Leave Me Lonely, & Makin' Up For Lost Time (duet with Crystal Gayle). ’87 hits included Plain Brown Wrapper, & Another World (another duet with Gayle) which was used for years as the theme for the soap opera of the same name. Morris later opened a music publishing office, with 1 of his employees being future star Faith Hill. Morris continues to record & perform.
