Toy Train History:  In Messrs Ives of Bridgeport (1950) Lewis H Hertz wrote: "Fortune once estimated that Ives had made nearly a Million clockwork trains, but in light of presently available evidence, it seems likely that the figure more nearly approached or exceeded 2 million." 

Item Description:  You are looking at the Earliest Ives 17/ Ives 11 Locomotive Body made Around 1901-1902. The Shell and Mechanism were Not Born Together. A Description of this Lot Follows: 
  • Ives Body - The Most Distinguishing Features of this Earliest Ives O Gauge Locomotive 17/11 are the 2 Cast-in Boiler Bands. This Earliest Version First Series was Only Available in 1901-1902 and Very Few Have Survived. This All Original Casting is Sound Without Any Cracks, Breaks, or Chips. The Paint is All Original. The Most Significant Paint Loss is On The Cab Roof and One Side of the Cab. Condition of this Ives Body is Original Good.   
  • Marklin Mechanism - This Early Marklin Wind-Up Mechanism which Accompanies This Ives Body was Manufactured by Marklin of Germany during the Same 1900 Era. Either Marklin Copied Ives, or Ives Copied Marklin, or Parts Were Interchanged, in the Manufacturing Process. Either Way, When Compared Side By Side, This Early Marklin Mechanism is Very Similar to the Early Ives Mechanism that should be Inside. These Unique Style Wheels are Identical to the Ives First Series Wheels. The Marklin Mechanism Fits Tightly inside the Ives Body. The Mounting Screws do Not, However, Have Proper Alignment Body to Mechanism. The Wind-Up Mechanism is Not Working. Ives and Marklin, Two of the Best Together, In One Early Locomotive.
