Antique map of Europe as it was in the early 19th Century. Attractive small, folding map with an index of countries by George Alexander Cooke in 1817 from his "System of Universal Geography". Copper plate engraved with hand colouring and outlining. Countries boundaries were redrawn after Napolean's defeat and the Congress of Vienna. Areas of modern day Poland, Czechia etc are in Germany or a separately coloured Prussia. The Turkish and Hungarian Empires dominate the south east of the continent and England contains Scotland and Ireland though the channel is "British".

220x265mm on paper 265x320mm blank on the reverse. The paper is in lovely antique condition without foxing or stains. It has several folds (see photo of rear), two of which are the original double folds to fit in the atlas book and a dog eared corner, but is without loss.

I also have Germany, Prussia, France, Switzerland, Netherlands/United Provinces, England & Wales, Turkey in Europe, all uncoloured from the same edition. If Interested in any particular map(s) by Cooke, please get in touch.

The map will be stored flat in a PP sleeve. It may be posted flat or rolled in a tube
