 American pitch for karts buggies

To identify your chain pitch measure from pin to pin on the chain; 219 is 7.8mm .  1/2" pitch is 12.7mm  & 35  pitch is 9.5mm  from pin to pin .

 

By far the main cause of clutch failure on Karts is overheating. We will not replace clutches damaged in this way.  The clutch locks at 2000rpm which is half revs so when in use the engine should be at or over half revs most of the time. Overheating is caused by stop start driving or more commonly too high gearing on off road karts .

Off road karts using 5-7hp motors i.e. most of them should not be geared for a max speed of over 48 Kmh (30Mph) preferably less especially for heavier drivers. To calculate your gearing for most 5-7hp four strokes  use the following  .

 

240 x number of teeth on front sprocket  x circumference of drive wheel in metres (put a tape measure round the tyre) then finally divide this number by the number of teeth on the back sprocket . This gives you speed in Kmh at 4000rpm  ie max speed !

 

This can also be expressed as…..

If..

Q =  number of teeth on front sprocket

Y=   number of teeth on back sprocket

Z=  distance around drive wheel in metres.

 

Then 240 x Q x Z  = top speed in KMH
